Speaker: Ms Irene Khan

Irene Khan is the Director-General of the International Development Law Organization since January 1, 2012. An international thought leader on human rights, gender and social justice issues, She was the secretary General of Amnesty International from 2001-2009. Prior to that, she worked for the UN Human High Commissioner for Refugees for 21 years at headquarters and in various field operations. She studied law at the University of Manchester and Harvard law school.

IDLO was founded in 1983, is an intergovernmental organization, headquartered in Rome, Italy. There are currently 31 Member States. China joined in 1989. The main function of IDLO is to contribute to the development through law, to promote the rule of law and administrative action in developing countries, to actively assist developing countries to establish a sound legal system, to overcome domestic poverty, to achieve social justice and to promote national peace and stable development. After nearly two decades of efforts, IDLO has won a reputation and become the leader in this field.
